Our Lady of the Rockies

Standing watch over the Rocky Mountains, looking out over Butte, USA, she who bore the Christ child, can never forget us, her children whom she bore at Calvary’s heights. She stands a beacon of hope to the poor, a pillar of strength to the weak, and for all humanity, a reminder of the never failing Love of God.

Guardian of the Divide

Standing at 90 ft tall, once second only to the Statue of Liberty, Our Lady of the Rockies, stands over looking Butte MT. The origin of the statue dates to 1979, when Bob O’ Bill of Butte MT, promised to build a statue of the Blessed Virgin, if his wife was cured of cancer. Laurien Eugene Riehl a retired mining engineer helped engineer the project while LeRoy Lee of Butte MT, built the statue. The land was donated by Guy Ossello. In September of 1985 the base was poured with 400 tons of concrete and December of the same year a  CH-54 Tarhe from the Army National Guard’s 137th Aviation Company airlifted the statue’s four sections onto its base on the East Ridge.
